i am eternally grateful for my favorite lil photo fairy alyx for taking the first session of my senior portraits a few months ago at the county fair. nothing gets you feelin' yourself quite like a glittery dress and a wee bit of editing.
self-confidence is something that everybody struggles with, especially young girls and women. it's something so gripping and so ignored. it can't be cured with a simple "no, you look fine" or "just love yourself, honey". it's fueled by multi-billion dollar industries and glossy magazine pages. it takes so long to build up an immunity to it, but can be broken down with one word. why do we let these things define us? it's not easy to change how we see ourselves in the middle of this highlight-reel society. loving yourself won't just happen overnight.
but there are little things you can do. and one day all those little things will add up to one big thing and you'll have a moment when you realize "oh god, i love myself". here are some little things that get me through the bad days:
it won't be fixed forever. you will still have doubts and you will still have bad days. but it gets so much better. try one of these, or make a list of your own to go back to.
go drink some tea
documenting the fun years.
